No Kings 2!

We will rally at 32nd and Commercial from noon to 1:00 before heading to Burlington for an action at 120 Cascade Mall (in front of Popeyes).

The following is cribbed and edited from Indivisible Skagit:

Here are some important ways to prepare:

Bring signs on the theme NO KINGS IN AMERICA and YOU BELONG WITH US!

Bring your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Let’s make this the biggest Anacortes Stands Up pro-democracy rally ever!

Bring water and snacks if you need them.

Wear yellow!

Safety Tips:

This is a peaceful, strictly non-violent, family friendly event. We ask everyone to do their part to keep it that way.

Please follow the suggestions of our traffic safety team in yellow & orange vests. Do not block traffic; this has been our main source of conflict in recent weeks.  Do not park in business parking lots, stand in their driveways or otherwise obstruct businesses.  Use the crosswalks and traffic signals.  Always wait for traffic to stop and allow the traffic safety monitors to escort you across the crosswalks.  Stay one step back from the curb.  Do not stand in the street, which means you might want to skip areas where there are a lot of cars parked between you and the street.  Weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden.  Don't litter, please.

De-escalation best practices: Do not engage with counter protesters or passers by who don’t share our values; just wave and smile. If you see a situation escalating: Move way if possible. Keep calm. Keep your voice quiet. Keep your body language relaxed and open, and your hands visible. Do not touch the person.  Alert one of our de-escalation team members in the yellow vests.  We plan for two safety team/de-escalators for each block depending on crowd size.  Feel free to photograph or film ongoing incidences, although remember that your phone can be tracked, even if turned off. Those of you who are concerned about being flagged or investigated in the future might want to leave your phones home.

BEST VISIBILITY PRACTICES: Your sign should be facing oncoming traffic at all times. Drivers cannot see your message if the sign is facing straight across the street or toward your pals.  Leave plenty of room between you and your neighbor so drivers and passengers can see more of the signs.  Spread out to the north along Commercial, starting from 32nd.  Let's see how far we can reach!  Smile, wave, give a thumbs up, peace sign or a raised fist of solidarity when anyone honks or shows support.  Make eye contact!

Thanks for helping to make this a wonderful and meaningful event! We’re in this together!
